What is Your Philosophy of Education
What is your philosophy of education?
A teacher’s personal philosophy of teaching expresses their values and beliefs regarding their job. This helps prospective employers and colleagues gain insight into how a teacher approaches their profession.
Your teaching philosophy should encapsulate your perspective on education and what it should mean for students. Additionally, it should outline your educational objectives as well as the methods you employ to attain those targets.
Donors Choose classroom project teachers often include a statement of their teaching philosophy in their projects to help donors understand their methods and what the school stands for. Your philosophy may even inspire you to choose the resources needed to bring it alive!
Writing Your Teaching Philosophy:
A successful teaching philosophy statement should be two to three pages in length and written in the present tense. It should clearly state your educational objective, provide several ideas about how to reach it, and explain your reasons for selecting these options.
When crafting your teaching philosophy, ask yourself these questions:
What is the true purpose of school? What should students gain in knowledge, skills and dispositions during this time?
How do you assess and monitor your students’ learning and development? How do you motivate them to do well academically?
Your teaching philosophy should be informed by your current views and experience level, though it may evolve as you progress in the profession. To ensure it remains aligned with current practice, review it periodically.
