The Difference Between CAT and CMAT Exams

CAT and CMAT are two of the most widely taken entrance exams in India for MBA/PGDM course admissions. Candidates take these tests because they offer good scores that are accepted by many B-schools across the country.

MAT Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The MAT exam syllabus is not set by the testing organization, but can be found online based on previous years’ exam patterns. The test consists of both multiple choice questions (MCQs) as well as TITA questions such as Seating Arrangement, Syllogisms/Venn Diagrams/Clocks & Calendars/Puzzles Blood Relations Data Sufficiency Tables/Cases etc.,

Prior to beginning their CAT preparation, candidates should gain a comprehensive understanding of the syllabus. This will enable them to craft an effective study strategy and plan how much time to devote to each section. Furthermore, having an understanding of the exam pattern is critical for success in CAT exams.

CAT is one of the most important management entrance exams in India and it has earned a reputation for being a challenging examination. It serves as an entry requirement to top B-schools such as IIMs, FMS, MDI, IITs and SPJIMR among others.

However, it’s not an easy exam to pass; it requires a great deal of hard work and dedication from candidates. Therefore, it is highly recommended that candidates study with a focused approach and practice regularly until their exam day.

CMAT on the other hand, offers a more practical option as it emphasizes logical reasoning and aptitude rather than rote learning. With four sections and 100 questions total, it can be completed within the allotted time limit making it more feasible than CAT.

Both CAT and CMAT are generally seen as easier tests than GMAT, but which one you choose depends on your target B-school and program admission requirements. If your primary objective is to gain admission into an esteemed full-time residential MBA program at IIM, then CAT would likely be preferred over CMAT.

CAT is a highly esteemed management entrance exam administered by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). It offers admission into over 160 Indian management institutes and 13 IIMs, as well as other esteemed institutions like NITIE and IIFT. Furthermore, it provides admission for MBA and PGDM programs at other colleges within India.

The CAT paper has a sectional time limit for every section and is considered more challenging than CMAT due to its tricky questions that require concentration to answer correctly. Furthermore, the CAT test has an increased difficulty level and lower sectional percentile than CMAT.

India’s premier and highly competitive management entrance test, IBPS, draws candidates from across the country each year; in 2018, over 2,40,338 candidates registered for this examination.
