Today U.S. News and World Report named CU-Boulder’s School of Education one of the nation’s top graduate schools for both education and law. Their masters program in educational leadership ranks among the nation’s top 20; their law program rounds out the list at number 30.

The School of Education not only offers top-notch programs in education and law, but it also boasts outstanding faculty and facilities. Its interdisciplinary faculty includes educators, scholars and social scientists alike.

Research in the School of Education involves both theoretical and empirical studies. Our work seeks to enhance learning and teaching across schools, communities, and informal settings. Our researchers are nationally-renowned experts with hands-on field experience as well as mentorship at their core.

The school is home to the National Education Policy Center, an interdisciplinary research center that studies issues of equity and social justice. Led by Dean Lorrie Shepard – recently named one of America’s top 200 education scholars who bridge academic and public audiences – this center conducts groundbreaking work.

Students at CU Boulder can get involved in a range of student organizations, such as The Herd – America’s largest alumni group; Left Right TIM – an improv comedy team that has performed for audiences throughout the region and beyond; and Buffaloes Athletic Teams.

Herd members enjoy discounted bus rides and other campus amenities, as well as being involved in community service projects like working with at-risk youth or supporting the AIDS Foundation of Colorado.

Undergraduate programs in education and related fields, such as elementary education, secondary education and teacher licensure, are available to meet a range of student interests. These programs may prepare you for a career in teaching or explore alternative models of educational practice, research and leadership.

In addition to undergraduate courses, CU-Boulder offers several graduate-level programs in education. The doctoral program in Education Studies and Masters of Education–which prepare teachers for the New York State certification exam–have been rated among the best programs nationwide by U.S. News & World Report; additionally, their Masters of Science in Music were ranked among the top 10 worldwide by U.S. News & World Report 1997, while their Master of Science in Speech, Language & Pathology are ranked among top 50 worldwide by U.S. News & World Report as well.

International students make up a substantial part of the student body at CU-Boulder. For the 2011-12 academic year, the school enrolled 1,681 international students and sent more than 1,300 abroad for study.

Admissions to CU-Boulder are determined by an applicant’s high school record and results of the College Entrance Examination (CEEB), which tests academic skills. Besides academic records and GPA, letters of recommendation, and personal interview, other factors that affect admission decisions are taken into consideration as well.

Many students at CU-Boulder have earned advanced degrees from institutions outside the United States. These graduates often go on to pursue academic careers at top universities around the globe.
